My daughter just received this game for Christmas. She just turned 6 and is only reading words, not sentences. She loves this game, but I have to constantly be reading the story to her. She would be able to play it on her own if not for the story-telling.

…and I would have to agree with the previous 2-star reviewer’s review regarding their own experience. However, my daughter is able to read complete sentences, although she doesn’t know ALL the words. That said, she has been able to pick up on this game quickly and intuitively and beams with pride when she picks up her blue ribbons for prizes that she wins.

Fun game for her, although I think that 7-8 year olds will have an easier time with it.

My daughter is also 6 years old (October 18, 2003) and plays this game just fine. Like other DS games, there is some reading but a 1st grader should be able to handle it. They may require a little assistance at first but the tougher words are repetitive throughout the game and after an hour or so they should be self-sufficient. I’m not sure why the first reviewer, reviewed her child’s learning progress rather than this game, but I can tell you that my daughter loves it. A dose of reading mixed in with game playing is not a bad thing and what little girl does not like the Pet Shop?

Bottom line: If your child can read; you should get the game. If they are just starting to read or cannot read and you are involved and willing to assist them with some quality time; you should get the game. If your child cannot read; don’t buy this game.

My daughter loved her LPS first DS game so we bought another one, Beach. It is exactly the same as the City….maybe one or two different pets. So don’t buy more than one. Don’t waste your money. My seven year old daughters words….it’s not fair. As for me, I am one Very disappointed Mom.

My 7 yr. old loves this game. I actually have to make her stop playing. This is our 2nd Pet Shop DS game. She loves both.
