This is a standard "find the hidden objects in the picture" game. It's fun, and it's a good fit for the DS (you click on the objects with your stylus when you find them). The pictures are generally well done, although sometimes it can be frustrating when you click on an object and the game doesn't register your click (presumably because you're clicking on the wrong pixel).

The mini-games, such as putting together a jigsaw puzzle, playing mahjongg tiles or playing concentration, are fun enough when they come between the find-the-object puzzles, as part of the main game. You can also unlock them to play them on their own, and I found them far too easy to be entertaining for very long in that mode.

This game is fun, and it's always nice to have a game that you can play for short periods (as opposed to something like Zelda or Final Fantasy, which tends to be played for longer times at a sitting). I wouldn't pay full price for it, but if you see it in the bargain bin I'd definitely recommend it.

This is virtually identical to another PopCap DS release, "Amazing Adventures: The Forgotten Ruins," just with different pictures.

MYSTERY P.I. PORTRAIT OF A THIEF by Spin Top/ Pop Cap Games is exactly like their previous release Amazing Adventures: The Forgotten Ruins for the Nintendo DS.

Basically the game is a search for the hidden items in the picture as you play a detective searching for stolen paintings. In order to progress in the game, you solve each puzzle by finding the list of items and then solve mini-games.

The mini-games consist of Mah Jongg, Memory, Rotating Tiles to complete the picture, jig-saw puzzle, all of which where on "Amazing Adventures...," plus new mini-game word search.

The game is pretty easy and you can play without the timer. And though it does get repetitive, I found it addicting to play.

I did find that I had to tap some of the items just right or else it wouldn't register on the touch screen. If you get bored easily then this is NOT the game for you. But if you like playing static/repetitive type games like puzzles or solitaire then you'll like this game.

It's also like Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir but that game has a little more variety to it.

I had no idea that this was a search and find game of objects. You just repeat yourself over and over and I was very bored.

Love the game, it is challenging and fun. Only thing I wish is that my screen was larger.

After playing the "Mayan Adventure" game, there was no way that I could come on here and give this game 5 stars. I will also be removing one star from the other game that I had previously reviewed because after playing both, I came to the realization that it is the same game with a different story and different box/cover art. Even if they are only [...]; we shouldn't have to endure a repeat of a game.

It is a fun puzzle game but VERY repetitive... you end up doing the same 4 tasks over and over. First, there will be a "Find and Seek" where you must find all of the relevant pieces. There are many many of these. Then you will get the occasional match the tiles and also a few find the hidden words and we musn't forget the rearranging of the tiles to make a normal picture. The plus is that the longer you play, become higher ranked and collect the hidden keys and paintbrushes will allow you to unlock all of these game to play in "Mini Mode". So much better in my opinion!

If you are looking for a game that you can play when you are in a waiting room, then these style of games fit the bill. If you are seeking a game that will have you running back to it, or part of your daily ritual; then totally skip it because the REPETITIVENESS will drive you mad.

The Good:

Keeps your mind focused.

Kills time while waiting for appointments.

Do not need to dedicate time as in other games.

The Bad:

REPETITIVE!!

Same as the "Mayan Adventure" game, just different packaging.

Did I mention REPETITIVE!!!!

I truly do feel a tad insulted that the company decided to throw the same code and steal another 20 bucks from me. Not nice... not nice at all.
