Considering you can get a 250GB hdd for $50 this really isnt a good deal, you’re much better off getting the 120GB and saving yourself some money. 120GB is actually a ton of space anyways and most people are hard pressed to even fill half of that.

We bought this not so much as a game playing device, but as a combination blu ray player that can stream netflix content. We favored the PS3 over the xBox 360 because the PS3 has no additional subscription fees for net access (XBox is something like $50/year). As a Blu Ray player it is flawless (be sure to get the PS3 adapter for harmony remotes if you have one of those). As a netflix streaming device, it has been a bust. We have a super fast Cable connection to the internet with download speeds in excess of 12 MB/sec, yet the wait to display the available titles is excruciatingly slow, and it can take a couple of minutes after selecting a title to get a “This title cannot be played at this time” message. In contrast, browsing streaming netflix content from the Mac mini on the same internet connection is speedy & flawless. This leads me to conclude that the problem is with the software that netflix provides for the PS3. In the PS3′s defense, once playback has begun, the streaming is flawless, and the picture is beautiful. It is just finding and selecting content that will make you run from the room screaming…
On another Note, I was impressed that it discovered our Sonos music system, and was really excited when it displayed all the titles in our music library. Then I discovered it couldn’t play any of the content because it is encoded in the Apple Lossless format, which the PS3 won’t play. Sigh.

As a Whole is an amazing price and value, Ps3 always had this amazing value, previously had an 80GB backwards compatible, but while in a storm a thunder burned it with my DVD. Then this option came out. My 80GB where always full so I had to delete things every week, demos, movies, music etc.. And for these price, I get 250GB!!!! I know I can chage de Hard Drive, but I really dont want to(laizy I know), there for this option was the one for me, both PS3 are excelent price point. Plus, incredibly silent, it doesnt have backwards compatibility sadly, but its not that bad. PS3 games have become for my opinion far better than those on 360, exclusives etc, and some third party also. But its good to have both choices. I just dont like Microsoft products, its far more expensive in the end, always.
Excelent console, specially with a Bravia, using Bravia Sync. Great Plus!

I do miss the backwards compatibility, and out of the box there were enough bugs that it couldn’t even process sound smoothly, froze up on every game played in it, Uncharted 2, Borderlands, Orange Box, etc. Loads times are unheard of long. After several updates over a 2 week period the sound smoothed out and no more freeze ups, load times are still painfully long. I bought this unit to replace an 80GB 4USB “Fully Backwards Compatible ” Unit, and the controllers I used on the 80GB will no connect to the 250GB unit even using the charge cord to connect it, when they do finally connect the directional pad (up right down left) buttons have no function and the controllers are numbered 5 or 7. Over all, sony hit it line drive, no more out of the park products from Sony in a while, even their tv’s and cameras have been down graded from their usual level of quality, their PC’s still seem to be of competitive quality, but for the price, lol, buy 2 dells. Sony, I was once brand loyal, you have let me down across your spectrum of products, as for the new PS3, a $700 used 80GB with 4 USB is a far superior unit.

Not only was I completely underwhelmed by the menus and the chunkiness of the GUI… I wasted the better part of two days trying to get it to connect to my wireless network and to the Sony remote purchased separately. I did a number of searches on tech support sites and was on the phone with Verizon with no solution at hand. While it is likely I got a defective unit, there are a number of people extremely frustrated with the difficulty in setting these up to a wireless network. If you cannot run an Ethernet to the back – proceed with caution. Note – my kids have a wii and I was able to set that up in under 10 minutes and it works flawlessly with our home network.
